A garden bed that became shaded out by the ornamental Grape vine above needed a new solution. I chose to divide up my favourite pot of Cardamon to fill in this dry shady spot.
The Cardamon was looking great and has served me well but it was time for a change. The new planting is a Gunnera manicata – Giant Ornamental Rhubarb. Gunnera is a dramatic, bog plant that grows giant leaves up to 2.4m wide on prickly Stems.
I’ve lined the pot with plastic to imitate the swampy conditions that it likes and planted Kidney weed to trail over the edges. Let’s see how it goes!
