This Woodend garden Myles designed, was planted about four months ago with mainly tube stock. Already it is starting to take shape after an unforgiving summer.
The benefits of using tube stock in a large mass plant-outs like this is the reduction in cost. Also, tubes adjust to the environmental conditions in most cases better than the more mature plants.
Bank on a higher loss rate though, as they are more susceptible to changes in climate because their root systems are not as established i.e. a heat wave or too much water.
As with choosing your plant varieties, the size of stock requires careful consideration. So choose wisely!
