Event: Fringe Furniture

As part of the 2010 Melbourne Fringe Festival, The Substation in Newport is hosting an exhibition focused on the encounters between the city and its others.

Through our annual open access design showcase, rediscover the spirit of a landscape fast disappearing – the long view, the place where time flows differently – with this year’s theme The City has a Face and the Country has a Soul.

I ventured across the bridge to check our the exhibition and see how the designers responded to the Fringe Festival brief.  From seats to tables, lights to storage, the old to the new; the restored Substation was a well chosen building to house the works.

Fringe Furniture 2010 is an experimental playground where emerging and established designers present new prototypes, explore materials and concepts, move beyond the brief and create challenging, irreverent and sophisticated work.

The Fringe Furniture exhibition will be showing at The Substation in Newport until the 10 October 2010.  Worth a look.
